Patient Diagnosed with Rare Disease Provided Free Air Transport to Access Specialized Medical Care

Please take a moment to read about Laura from Pittsburgh, PA

When Laura was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, it was recommended she explore a clinical trial being conducted at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New Jersey. Not only was the distance from Pittsburgh to New Jersey daunting, but the travel cost was prohibitive along with the risk of her traveling on commercial airlines given her immune system was compromised.

With a life-altering diagnosis and the only care more than 350 miles away, Laura now needed to figure out how she could travel regularly to the medical care she desperately needed. A friend told her about Angel Flight’s ability to provide free air transportation for individuals like her who needed to travel long distances for vital medical care and treatment. She reached out to Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic who coordinated one of the two mission legs and worked with our Mission / Flight Coordination team for the second portion / leg of her mission.

We are able to support patients like Laura who have rare and ultra-rare medical diagnoses with a generous grant from the Alexion Charitable Foundation and from support of individuals, like you.,

Laura shared the following:
“I would like to say, thank you everyone at Angel Flight for your gift of your time, talent, and resources. These Pilot’s ROCK!”
As with all of our patients, Laura forever has a place in our heart and will remain a part of the Angel Flight NE extended family. We assured her that we are here for her as long and as often as she needs our assistance to access the vital care she needs to battle her rare form of blood cancer.

Mission/Flight requests – like hers – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives.  We are here for her for as long and as often as she needs our help and to ensure the best possible outcome. Please keep her and all of our patients in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission.

With your help, we can ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Laura and the thousands of others we assist yearly.

Warmest regards,
Fr. Larry & the AFNE Staff
