AFNE Cancer Patient Travels 1,000 Miles for Care

As the seasons turns colder and the weather provides greater challenges to assisting our patients – it’s been a great comfort to know we have assistance from our sponsors and supporters like YOU.

On Thursday, April 14, 2022, the parents of 3-year-old Jagger were told the one thing every parent hopes they never have to hear; “We believe your child has Cancer.” When a large soft tissue tumor was discovered, it was an unexpected, life-altering moment during a trip to the emergency room for what they suspected was just a bad sickness.

Jagger was immediately transported by an ambulance to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY. There Jagger was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive, fast-growing cancer. On average, across the country, only 400-500 people are diagnosed annually. The family was told the best possible course of treatment was at Mayo Clinic over 1,000 miles away. Unbelievably, a nurse in Syracuse heard about the challenges that would soon face the family & shared our information. She had used our service in the past for a family member of her own! Kelsey, Jagger’s mother called us, and we assured her that we’d be happy to help for as long & often as they need us.

On that first mission in July for his surgery, the family flew with Steve B., and for each flight after – Alexion Charitable Foundation has provided their flights.

We were also able to send along a little extra joy with a package of Hasbro toys for Jagger & his brother to greet him when he returned from surgery! Hasbro supports Angel Flight NE’s mission not only with life-saving grants but also with unlimited toys to provide to the children we fly including Mr. Aviation Potato Head.

As with all of our patients, Jagger is forever a part of our Angel Flight NE family. Mission/Flight requests – like Jagger’s – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives. We are here for Jagger & his family for as long and as often as they need our help and to ensure the best possible outcome.

Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission. With your help and belief in our mission, we can ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Jagger.
