Volunteer Pilots Assist Maine Patient for 30 Years to Access Medical Care

Please take a moment to read about Erika’s healthcare journey that began over 30 years ago.

Erika began having medical challenges at 17 months old that required frequent trips to Boston Children’s Hospital starting before her 3rd birthday.

Multiple initial diagnoses included primary immunodeficiency, progressive myopia, global delays, GI dysmotility, Complex III mito dysfunction and eventually 16p deletion syndrome and adrenal insufficiency. During her healthcare journey, Erika’s prognosis has been very grave at times and continues to be diagnosed as a rare, unknown.

A Recent Note from Erika’s Mother:
“Erika has proven herself to be a fighter during this 30 year healthcare journey. While we have faced a great deal of uncertainty, we know Angel Flight NE is always there for us and continues to help assist our family with travel for Erika to receive the specialized care she requires.

When we recently celebrated her 33rd birthday, it was easy to see the role that Angel Flight NE, its many volunteer pilots and staff have had on her life. Their assistance in helping us travel hundreds of thousands of miles over her lifetime has been a blessing for our family and given us one less thing to have to contend with. They will always be ANGELS to us.” ~ Erika’s Grateful Family

We are able to transform patients’ lives – like Erika’s – who need to access life-saving medical care with the amazing support of our compassionate, giving volunteer pilots along with the generous support of foundations and charitable groups such as The Alexion Charitable Foundation!

And support of individuals, like you, is also vital to ensuring distance is never an obstacle for patients and families in need.

Together we are making the “Impossible, Possible” for patients and families in need of accessing life-saving medical care.

As with all of our patients, Erika will always have a place in our heart and will remain a part of the Angel Flight NE extended family. We continually assure her mom that we are here during Erika’s healthcare journey for as long and as often as she needs our assistance to access the vital care and treatment she needs during her long-term challenging healthcare journey.

Mission/Flight requests – like Erika’s – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives. We are here for her for as long and as often as she needs our help and to ensure the best possible outcome. Please keep Erika along with all of our patients in your thoughts and prayers.

We are proudly celebrating our 27th year of service having scheduled over 108,000 flights for patients who have traveled more than 15 million miles to 750+ medical facilities throughout the United States since our founding in 1996.

Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission.

With your help, we can ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Susan and the thousands of others we assist yearly.

Warmest regards,
Fr. Larry & the AFNE Staff
