NJ Patient Flight to Iowa Made Possible by AFNE Volunteer Pilot

We first shared Kenzie’s story last March when AFNE Volunteer Pilot Charlie T. provided a round-trip flight for the family to travel to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Beautiful Kenzie has a rare bone disorder that causes extreme pain, she had been through treatment locally, but her specialist felt it would be helpful to have another in person follow up.

Last month, Kenzie’s family was once again encouraged to travel to discuss future treatment. Due to the amount of medical equipment and family members required to travel , it made the most sense logistically for them to travel commercial. With the help of The Alexion Charitable Foundation, we were able to support this family in a way that truly made a difference in their life especially over the holiday season.

Thankfully, this appointment identified several new lesions in her body and abnormalities in her bone marrow that required a change in her treatment plan going forward.

We are so incredibly happy we could assist Kenzie & her family on this trip & are grateful they identified issues that could help with her pain going forward.

Robin shared the following after her recent trip:
I wanted to extend our gratitude for all that you and Angel Flight NE did for us once again. If it weren’t for you, our little girl wouldn’t have been able to see Dr. Ferguson. It’s where we were given news that we weren’t expecting so it was a very important trip for us. We found out Kenzie has new lesions and some other concerns that will require more testing and back to aggressive treatments. She will also need to be seen again in 6 months. I made some shirts for this last trip to show just how loved Angel Flight NE is and much of an impact they make. Thank you again, we appreciate you so much!

As with all of our patients, Kenzie is forever a part of our Angel Flight NE family. Mission/Flight requests – like hers – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives.

Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission. With your help and belief in our mission, we are able to ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Kenzie.

Warmest regards,

Fr. Larry & the AFNE Staff
