Thankful Thursday ~ Roger’s Healthcare Journey from VT to NY
(Pictured above: Roger (left rear seat) is able to travel from Vermont to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York with his wife Heather by his side to receive treatment and care for a rare form of throat cancer. Flights like Roger’s are made possible by our amazing volunteer pilots – like Todd F. (left front seat) and his mission assistant Scott N.)
This Thankful Thursday, we are honored to share the inspiring story of Roger of Shelburne, VT — a husband & family man whose life has been profoundly impacted when he was diagnosed with a Rare Form of Throat Cancer in 2022.
For individuals like Roger, traveling long distances for medical care can feel overwhelming, but thanks to our generous volunteer pilots, we are able to regularly fly Roger – accompanied by his wife, Heather – to specialized care and treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.
Our Mission Flight Coordination Team has coordinated 14 free flights for Roger since November 2022. He is forever grateful to have Angel Flight NE’s support.
He recently shared a thankful note with the AFNE team:
“Follow up visits to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from northern Vermont following surgery have been a vital part of a marathon toward healing. In the early post-surgery stages, many challenging full day car journeys were necessary to travel to New York City and Westchester County. When we discovered the Angel Flight NE program, it truly was of the angels! It has been a soothing salve on this journey! Not only has it lessened the stress and demands of travel, but we have met many wonderfully kind, generous and warm-hearted people. The gift of the Angel Flight NE program has given us a boost of hope in many ways! My wife and I are so grateful to be one of the recipients this outstanding program!”
Roger’s journey is an amazing testament to the impact Angel Flight NE and our supporters have in ensuring that no patient has to face medical obstacles alone. Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue providing free flights of hope and healing to patients like Roger.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our major partner, the Alexion Charitable Foundation, our community of volunteer pilots, and donors who help us bridge the gap between distance and life-changing medical care for those battling rare and ultra-rare diseases & conditions.
