NY Patient Travels to Boston for Treatment of Rare Cancer

Please take a moment to read about Nanette’s healthcare journey to treat a rare cancer of the salivary gland that she was diagnosed with in 2022.

Hearing you have cancer is scary enough, but to learn you have a rare form of cancer requiring specialized treatment at Dana Farber in Boston, MA when you live in Glen, NY can be overwhelming.  The 200+ mile trip both ways – 3 hours in the best of weather – is not only daunting but also costly especially when you may have to stay over night. This is exactly what Nanette faced when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2022. She immediately worried how she would get to and from New York and Massachusetts for treatment as well as the cost given she had to take an early retirement when she was diagnosed.

After learning about Angel Flight NE’s life-saving services, she called and spoke with our mission coordination team who assured her we would help to get her to the care she needs so she can focus on what is important – getting well! Patients like, Nanette, should never worry about how they will get to the care they need – our mission is to lift that worry and bridge the gap between distance and healthcare.

In a recent email from Nanette, she took a moment to thank everyone involved:
“We would like to thank Angel Flight NE for their generous assistance in securing flights for us to take to Boston, while undergoing cancer treatment at Dana Farber. This act of generous assistance has helped us reduce our financial burden considerably. Being forced to take an early retirement, because of this disease, their help has been greatly appreciated and has been much needed. The assistance of Ground Crew / Earth Angels has been both helpful and we have met some wonderful people, with big hearts!

We thank the team at Angel Flight NE for their perseverance in assisting patients like me with this much needed service. Thank you so very much!”
