When Kyle needed to say "Hello Columbus", Angel Flight Northeast got him there!

Meet Kyle ~ One of Our Patients

Take a moment to read a note from the mother of Kyle, a five-year old boy we flew for critical care. Imagine the consequences if Angel Flight NE hadn't been there. And think, too, this is just one child, one patient of the many...

Our precious 5-year old son, Kyle is a blessing from above — his giggle, his smile, his loving touch makes me and everyone who meets him appreciate every moment we have with him.

Our Kyle has endured more in the first five years of his life than many should or will do in an entire lifetime. He has severe lung and digestive issues inhibiting him from taking food by mouth. His “meals” are only provided through a TPN line and feeding tube.

At the urging of Kyle’s local doctor, we were thrilled to be able to get Kyle an appointment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Kyle was to see one of the top GI motility teams in the country to get him the urgent medical care he needs. They assured us that they could give us the answers that we desperately needed and weren’t able to get from the other medical consults locally.

Unfortunately, our elation was derailed quickly when our travel arrangements to get Kyle from our home in Maine to Columbus, Ohio fell through. We did not know where to turn and were convinced that we’d miss Kyle’s long-awaited appointment. With him being so sick, time was of the essence and the doctors were adamant that we could not delay the appointment any further to meet with the team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

 Kyle with Pilot Tom
"Tom is one of the nicest people we have ever encountered. This journey has been so hard on all of us. But I am so thankful there are people in the world like Pilot Tom"

That’s when Angel Flight Northeast came to the rescue and changed our despair to hope.

On March 4th, I reached out to Angel Flight explaining Kyle’s situation and the urgency in getting him transported to Columbus. Less than 24 hours later, Angel Flight responded that they had a plane and pilots who volunteered to fly Kyle, my husband and I round trip at no cost to the appointment.

There was so much to worry about on that trip. But the one sure thing was that Angel Flight was there when we needed them at the most desperate of times and took care of getting us there and home safely. Having peace of mind that Angel Flight pilots were there to help us with our journey allowed me to focus on Kyle and his evaluation by the doctors.

I don’t know what we would have done
without Angel Flight Northeast.
