"The Art of Transport" opens at Pierce Ball Gallery May 31st

Portion of Proceeds to Benefit Angel Flight NE

Art Show to Benefit Angel Flight Northeast ~ Friday, May 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

It has long been known that a work of art can transport the viewer to another place or time, transforming the act of viewing into a total experience. Each viewer engages with the art in their own personal way. The upcoming show “The Art of Transport”, at the Pierce Ball Gallery in Stamford, CT, brings this experience together the works of 2 painters – aviation artist David Gorski, and automotive artist Ken Scaglia. “I have always been fascinated with the reaction to works of art by viewers. These 2 painters provide incredible depth of content within each painting, making them a rich experience to viewers. Each piece can literally ‘transport’ the viewers into their own story.” said Elizabeth P. Ball, Director of the Pierce Ball Gallery.

In one of David Gorski’s oil paintings “A Dance In The Clouds” featuring two Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft with invasion stripes play chase high over the beautiful mountains of Europe in WW2, the viewer can’t help but to become engaged in the story being played out on this canvas. Where are they headed? Will they make it back to base? How does it feel to fly through the clouds with the dramatic snowcapped mountains below? Is it exhilarating or terrifying? Each of David’s paintings are careful studies in detail, providing a glimpse into a time gone by.

Yale-educated, Ken Scaglia’s paintings focus with dramatic composition and intense detail, on the sheer elegance of the automobile. Whether it is the iconic fins and spare tire detail on a 1960 Chrysler 300F found on the grounds of the Saratoga Car Museum or the chrome spotlight of a 1930’s Mack antique fire engine that has been lovingly maintained by the Weston Volunteer Fire Department, his works engage the viewer at every level. “I love the stories that come from people that view Ken’s work. They delight in telling with equal detail about their own experiences with a particular vehicle, again ‘transporting’ them to another time in their lives.”said Ball.

In addition, jewelry by Steven Wallerstein of Norwalk, CT will be displayed and for sale. His works in silver, copper, and brass are wearable works of art.

The show opens on Friday, May 31st, 6:00 - 8:00pm with an artists reception. The show will be open again June 1, 2, 9, from 1 - 5pm or by appointment.

A portion of the proceeds of this show will be donated to Angel Flight Northeast (AFNE).

Angel Flight Northeast is 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides FREE air transportation to patients whose financial resources would not otherwise enable them to receive treatment or diagnosis, or who may live in rural areas without access to commercial airlines.  AFNE is also a vital mode of transportation for organs, blood and for patients awaiting organ transplants. They make compassion flights and provide air care wherever there is a compelling human need. Most flights are in private aircraft, by volunteer pilots. Volunteer pilots donate their time, talent, airplane, fuel and operating expenses. AFNE provides all transportation coordination of 80-100 missions per week and have recruited nearly 1,000 volunteer trained pilots and other volunteers in this tremendous effort to ensure that they never have to refuse those in need. Approximately 50% of their patients are children, suffering from life-threatening cancer, severe burns or crippling diseases; the rest are adults.

“I thought this show would be a great opportunity to bring awareness to the community of the incredible service that AFNE provides, all FREE of charge.” said Ball. She has been a member of Angel Flight NE’s Partners Council since 2011.

Pierce Ball Gallery is also the exclusive source for paintings by 2 African Elephants that live in Botswana, Africa. From small watercolors to "elephant sized" canvases, these paintings are truly "elephant expressions". These paintings will also be on display and for sale.
