System Organization

  • Developed under Federal Grant #02SVHP009 from the Corporation for National and Community Service
  • Utilizes the following assets: Regionally organized volunteer pilots/planes More than 7,000 volunteer pilots and planes are available nationwide (4 – 6 seat private aircraft)
  • Shipment of small high-priority cargo (non-hazardous) up to 300 to 400 pounds (boxed)
  • Aerial reconnaissance of disaster area
  • Air transport of disaster response personnel and evacuees

Pilot Paul C. Hathaway, 49, has more than 2,000 hours and 23 years of civilian flight experience and holds commercial, multiengine, instrument and rotorcraft pilot ratings, as well as an A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) mechanic’s rating. He owns a Daher TBM 850, a high-performance, single-engine turboprop aircraft, based at the Fitchburg Municipal Airport, and is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight Northeast, which provides free of charge transportation for patients needing to travel to hospitals in the Boston area.

Angel Flight NE Celebrates 20th Year of Service

Twenty years after the first mission of healing and hope was coordinated and took flight, Angel Flight NE (“AFNE”), a nonprofit that coordinates free air transportation for patients to access critical medical care, is proudly celebrating two decades of providing essential access to healthcare.

"We are extremely proud to be celebrating this meaningful milestone of 20 years of service that has brought so much hope to thousands of patients and families,” said Larry Camerlin, President and Founder of Angel Flight NE. “This journey would not have been possible without the commitment of our volunteer pilots, Earth Angels and the sponsors and supporters who have conveyed such faith and devotion in our mission. We look forward to continuing our mission for many years to come.”

Charles Lafitte Foundation Awards $25K grant to Angel Flight Northeast
Announced February 1, 2016
The Charles Lafitte Foundation (CLF) recently donated $25,000 to Angel Flight Northeast (AFNE), a non-profit organization that coordinates free air transportation for patients to access life-saving medical care that is not available in their geographic area. The donation will help support mission flight coordination for more than 80 life-saving flights.

When Andy Weiner and Mike Giordano don their headsets and depart from Cross Keys Airport, they’re just a couple of local pilots in a small plane. By the time they hit the runway at Logan International in Boston, they’ve become angels. The men are longtime volunteers with Angel Flight Northeast, a nonprofit organization that provides air transportation to medical patients and their families, free of charge. About 40 percent of those the organization serves are children suffering from life-threatening cancer, severe burns or crippling diseases who need treatment at medical centers far from home.

NEW YORK, NY & NORTH ANDOVER, MA (May 27, 2014) – Swiss watch company Breitling is proud to support Angel Flight Northeast (“AFNE”), a nonprofit organization that schedules free air transportation for patients who need to access life-saving medical care that is not readily available to them due to their geographic location and who lack the financial resources to travel commercially to receive treatment or diagnosis, with a donation of $100,000.

Beechcraft published a wonderful online piece regarding how individuals like Jim Cear, AFNE Chairman & Volunteer Pilot, are making a difference with their time and aviation talents. As Jim Cear takes off in his Beechcraft Bonanza V35B, he’s carrying a precious passenger—Mason, an 8-year-old boy who suffered burns on 87 percent of his body. Mason is traveling with his father from New Jersey to Boston for medical care at Shriners Hospital for Children. His father first called Angel Flight Northeast in 2010, and since then the nonprofit organization has coordinated 94 flights for Mason and his parents, at no cost.

Morpho Detection Partners with Angel Flight Northeast

Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, Inc., announced it has partnered with Angel Flight Northeast, a nonprofit that coordinates free air transportation for patients to access life-saving medical care. As a result, Angel Flight Northeast will be able to coordinate more than 60 additional flights for patients who need to access life-saving medical care that would normally be out of their reach. Angel Flight Northeast coordinates approximately 90 flights each week.

Flying is fun for some pilots and a passion for others, but flying for a good cause is especially satisfying for pilots Mike Rosenblum, of Nashua, and Tom Quail, of Bedford. They are volunteer pilots for Angel Flight Northeast, an nonprofit organization founded in 1996 with the mission to provide patients and accompanying family members free transportation to appointments for medical care at facilities throughout New England and elsewhere. Rosenblum and Quail are among the more than 1,000 volunteer pilots who transport infants, toddlers, teens and adults. The patients usually are accompanied by at least one family member.
